Is it worth it to drive for Uber right now 2022?

Updated: Aug 1, 2022

There are many great advantages to driving for Uber in 2022! Many perks and advantages come with being a rideshare driver or food delivery driver.

If you've never driven rideshare or food delivery before, it's actually a lot easier than you might think. In most cases, all you need is a driver's license, insurance, and a clean driving record. Also, for rideshare, it's going to require you to be over the age of 21.

If you've recently signed up for Uber or haven't yet, here's a great video you can watch to get a good overview of the lifestyle!

Now, let's talk about some downsides that come with driving rideshare right now. For all of the upsides of being a rideshare driver, there does happen to be a couple of downsides.

I'm sure you've noticed that so many Uber drivers are quitting nowadays, and there are so many reasons as to why. Gig workers have been hit HARD by this economic crisis, and it's a shame that so many feel they have to quit. With all the negative aspects people are focusing on when it comes to rideshare driving, do you think Uber is here to stay?

Gas prices are one of the main issues people have been discussing, especially rideshare drivers. Many drivers don't feel that it's worth it when they're spending half their income on gas! It's ridiculous to say the least. It's only a matter of time before everyone gets fed up if nothing changes. Uber did, however, implement a 55 cent gas surcharge to accommodate for this, where riders pay an extra 55 cents for each ride which goes directly to the driver. Many drivers took offense to this and saw it as a slap in the face. Half a dollar extra per ride won't cut it for drivers paying a substantially larger amount for gas than before. As of right now, Uber hasn't done much else to help their drivers.

Safety has also been a huge issue for drivers. So many Uber horror stories have been arising between passengers and drivers who can both be seen in the wrong. This is why it is so important to have a dash cam in the car at all times to document any incident that may happen inside or outside of the car. It would be great if Uber could send all their drivers a dash cam or make it a requirement to start driving, but that's just wishful thinking. We highly suggest all drivers have a dash cam to act as a security camera to ensure everyone's safety.

It's no wonder so many Uber drivers are quitting now. We truly hope the company listens to their drivers needs. What changes would you like to see that would make rideshare driving more worth it for you?
